Ron is looking for the best espresso: Where are your favourite espresso stops in town? Who sells the strongest brew? Which espresso machine comes top of your list? And what beans tickle your taste buds? Send me an e-mail at [email protected] and express your love of espresso.
Give my love to the city,
Ron

Bruno Pronsato

Superyellow at Supermarket: Club Supermarket calls their Thursday nights Superyellow. This week’s main act - supported by djs Gogo, Lime and Don Ramon - is Bruno Pronsato. The minimal techno dj and producer from the US started out in the punk scene but has fully concentrated on electronic music since moving to Germany. His latest downbeat percussion releases remind me of Ricardo Villalobos.
Thursday 11 pm, Supermarket

Party time
Saturday night fever: Cityfox presents several techno djs at Alte Börse, among them two talented young Argentineans (Barem and Violett). If you get hooked on djs Gogo and Don Ramon on Thursday, head to Hive on Saturday. The event is called Huttanz, which means you have to wear a hat to get in (yes, any hat!) And last but not least, Miss Kittin & The Hacker stop-off during their Europe tour at Rohstofflager (yes, it’s still there!).
Saturday 11 pm, various clubs

Short films

Short and sweet: Kurz&Knapp offers young filmmakers events at which to show their work outside the festival circuit. Any filmmaker can contact them and, with a bit of luck, his or her work will become part of the next series. On Sunday you’ll get to see 10 of these shorties – 6 of them made by Swiss directors – at Razzia.
Sunday 8 pm, Razzia

Clubbing
Clubbers night: The largest Swiss club festival, 20Minuten Clubbers Night, is in Zurich this Sunday. Buy a ticket for 25 francs and you can access 11 different clubs in town with a shuttle service. The night offers everything from house and electro to hip hop and reggae. My tip: Reggae Against the Machine at Moods.
Sunday 10 pm, various clubs

Roller disco

Crash Flow: Laugh, dance and roller skate with Erobique who’s guaranteeing you a wild night of disco. He’ll be playing his e-piano at Zukunft this Sunday. The programme continues with djs Malik, Alice LaBoum, Robby Nash and Rumory who'll spin their favourite songs ranging from punk rock to rock 'n' roll and electro-disco.
Sunday 10 pm, Zukunft

Opening
Rio in Zurich: After Whit Monday, Tuesday sees the end of the lovely long weekends that we’ve enjoyed over the last two months. But the opening of Rio Bar might make your start to the week a bit easier. Radio 200K plays live and you’ll find djs Clovis, Dan Campo & Leo behind the turntables. Entry is free.
Tuesday 8 pm, Rio Bar

Good to know
Stick to it: If you own a bicycle then you should decorate yours with a ‘velo vignette’, with the year clearly stated on it. This sticker is a mandatory registration sign that proves that you have third-party insurance in case of accidents resulting in costs up to 2.5 million francs (depending on the insurance company). Dating back to 1890, these licences for bikes included road tax and were similar to buying today’s Swiss car number plates. From 1932, the number of the vignette was no longer given to the owner of the bike, but it was still compulsory to get a rectangular red metal license plate – which were replaced by stickers around twenty years ago. Vignettes are the cheapest way to insure and protect yourself and your bike. So remember that your new vignette is due on 1 June – and if the police stop you and discover you’ve been cycling through the streets without one, they’ll most certainly fine you.

Midweek affair

Be worried and happy: This is the motto of Pau Donés the singer and guitar player from Jarabe de Palo of Barcelona. Like Mano Negra and Manu Chau the band combines rock, reggae, salsa, blues and even flamenco. I have 2 pairs of tickets to give away for their concert this Wednesday at Kaufleuten.
Wednesday 8 pm, Kaufleuten  e-mail for tickets

Eating
Hidden treasure: Restaurant Rosso lies disguised just next to Hardbrücke. The industrial open-plan design of the interior is in keeping with its surroundings and you can watch trains passing by the windows. It's always busy as they serve the best pizza in town. It's closed on Saturday, but it's generally booked solid the rest of the time, so reserve a table in advance.
