 Swiss art: Plattform 09 exhibits works across various media that pinpoint Switzerland's future art movements. 16 graduates from 8 different art schools present photos, installations, paintings and videos – all selected by an experienced jury. The exhibition at EWZ Selnau, organised by the society KunstWollen, opened its doors on Wednesday. There’s a special highlight for each day, ending with a big party at Stall 6 next Thursday. Entry is free.

Feel good: From Thursday to Sunday, Arthouse Le Paris shows Easy Virtue over lunchtime. The plot in short: A young Englishman (Ben Barnes) marries a glamorous American (Jessica Biel). Her New World nonchalance clashes against the traditional airs of the British nobility when he brings her home to meet his parents. Set in the 20s, this film is full of witty dialogue and has a great cast, especially Kristin Scott Thomas as a thin-lipped snob who’s aghast at her son’s decision to marry the sassy, young blonde.

 Happy Birthday: Inside Switzerland is (in my humble opinion!) the nation’s best English-language magazine. Celebrate 2 years since its launch at Seefeld-Razzia this Friday. Highlights include: a sushi apéro, the film Super 8 by Pascal Greco/Kid Chocolat, flicks by fashionshow.ch, the acclaimed band The Strivers (the bassist is the mag’s music editor) plays a special one-off performance, (I caught their official final gig at Abart, so it’s genuinely the last chance to catch them live); then Dj Miky Merz spins party tunes to test your dancing skills.

Weekend clubbing: There are a few good parties on this weekend. Friday at Zukunft features Finish Vladislav Delay, known for his innovative and minimal electronica. On Saturday you have the choice between Timo Maas at Alte Börse and the 5th anniversary celebration of label Glückstück at Walcheturm. I have two pair of tickets to give away for Glückstück.

Spanish fashion
 
  Spring fashion: Javier Alsamendi, the designer behind the fashion label Alsamendi Barcelona, opened his first shop in Zurich last October at Josefstrasse 45. This Saturday the boutique invites all to a spring apéro to view his latest collection called Tutti Frutti. The colourful textiles, inspired by his travels, are on-trend for those wanting a summery outfit.

Shake your booty: Les Rebelles are 3 burlesque dancers from Zurich. Now, after performing in more than 50 shows over the last 3 years, they want to share their know-how. To discover the diva in you and get a saucy wobble in your walk, turnout for a tease by enrolling on one of their workshop courses. Skully Bone, Dardy Candy Cat and LouLou BonBon may even start an English group if you e-mail them to let them know in which language you’d like to be taught.

Good to know
 
 Out with winter: Sechseläuten is unique to Zurich and the tradition dates back to the Middle Ages. Originally it was celebrated in March and marked the change from winter to summer time. The festivities start with the children's parade on Sunday but the highlight is on Monday when the guilds march through the centre ending with the burning of the Böögg. Although many locals find this tradition dated, elitist and sexist (as women are excluded from guilds) the entire event is transmitted live on TV. For me the excitement starts at 6 pm. When the church bells start to ring it's time to burn the Böögg, a snowman effigy stuffed with wadding and firecrackers. The faster the Böögg burns, the better the summer weather forecast. The spectacle ends with a loud bang when its head explodes. Afterwards you can grill a sausage on the still-hot coals of the Böögg’s pyre. The area by Bellevue will be very crowded but there are loads of stalls to get a bite to eat or a drink.

  Everything is art: What a brilliant idea! 50 undercover agents for Improv Everywhere turned a New York underground station into an art gallery opening event. They transformed the platform’s objects (pipes, electrical boxes, signs, advertisements) by adding ‘artspeak-description’ placards to them, hosted a bar and even held performances.

Milestone: Meylenstein is an exclusive lounge and bar near Tiefenbrunnen. It's the place to go if you're a champagne lover (they serve more than 20 different kinds) or if you like jazz and swing. This Friday they're hosting Lino Live "the voice of Swing and Soul" followed by Green & Brown from midnight.
