Film and sound: This is Ascension Thursday, so many of us will be enjoying a long weekend. And, as the weather is forecast to be great, why not start the holiday with a cinema classic in open air? The Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, a 1978 comedy film directed by John De Bello and starring David Miller, is being shown on the big screen at Kalkbreitestrasse 2. In my opinion this is B-movie satire at its best. Or if you prefer A-class sounds head over to Hive for an electro and pop-punk feast where Egotronic rave against politics, followed by the one and only Saalschutz.

Dress for less: Cocuna hosts a bad taste party this Friday, so any old sweater that’s been hiding in your closet will do the trick. If your outfit’s really bad, you’ll even get in for free. And don't forget to bring your iPod along for the iPod battle and, when you run out of tracks, the Starshiptroopers will take over. At the same time, Ghostface Killah (Wu Tang-Clan) shows Dynamo what hip hop is all about. The unofficial (!) after-show party then takes place at Stall 6 with DJ Haitian Star. Together with Future Rock, this rap original plays old school and electro beats.

About images: Videoex, the international and experimental video and film festival starts this Saturday at Kunstraum Walcheturm and Cinema Z 3. The festival examines new ways of using technology in experimental films and videos and serves as a get-together for filmmakers and video artists and, of course, it screens many, many films.

Pool time: Anna Aaron is a young singer/songwriter who plays piano and sings beautiful songs, while  Kejnu create a dreamy sound. Both play at Seebad Enge this Sunday. There’s also dancing on Sunday – at Barfussbar from the middle of May until the end of summer. This week, Marianne Berna la Zia gives us hot music from hot countries. Sunday 8 pm Seebad Enge

Grill to glory: This art project belongs to an adventurous man who aims to either organise or visit as many BBQs this summer as possible. So help him out. Invite him to be your grill master or join one of his BBQs (a proper grill eve only counts in his books if there are at least 4 people present). If you don't have a suitable balcony or garden, here are some suggestions of places in the city where you can ‘light your fire’. Squares: Hallwylplatz and Röntgenplatz offer enough space to hold a BBQ. As far as I know you don't need to check with any authorities if you plan on hosting anything there, although it might be wise to check if there’s another party on the same day. Parks: Bäckeranlage, Josefwiese and Irchelpark are all very suitable for a grill party. Josefwiese and Irchelpark provide a lot of space while Bäckeranlage is very central. Lake: There’s a public grill for anyone to use next to GZ Wollishofen. The petrol station shop over the road sells everything you might need for an impromptu party. River: If you follow the river Sihl beyond Sihlcity, then you’ll arrive at Allmend. Once there you’ll find several BBQ spots and they’re free to use (you have to bring the grill along). The location is absolutely idyllic and surprisingly little used.

Swimming: The temperatures should reach almost 30 degrees over the weekend. The heat always makes me want to go for a swim. This great service shows you all water temperatures for rivers and lakes in the canton of Zurich. Ok, they're still a bit ‘brrrrr’ but it's certainly worth keeping an eye on them.
