Zurich (EN) : Zurich 04.05.2023: Bologna, Books & More Birthdays

May the Fourth be with you Ronster

In case you didn't notice my very subtle hint, today is the fourth of May, and i know all you Star Wars fans, (or partners of fans,) know what day it is. Maybe you're watching the saga for the 100th time, or you've taken out your lego and action figures as a wave of nostalgia washes over you. Whatever it is you're doing, i hope you're having as much fun as i did at my birthday party. A lot of you Ronsters showed up, danced, ate pizza and momos and had a really, really good time. Thanks for being there, making me feel special!

Speaking of special days, my very own Rooftop Day is on the horizon. You can register now if you want to host a party but if you just want to kick back and enjoy the gardens, rooftops and yards of the city mark the 24th of June in your diary. Have a great weekend and...

Give my love to the city.

Ron's Weekly Agenda

Birthdays, birthdays, birthdays. After mine we have a few more to celebrate. Kleine Freiheit is 10 years old, we have the 15th edition of the Lauter festival and a guitar shop celebrates its 35th year with some live music. Will they have guitars? You’ve got to hope so. But if you are a bibliophile we have something for you and a new pop-up is opening where Metzg used to be.

Thursday: Author reading at the Literaturhaus
Friday: The Lauter festival is back
Saturday: The James Joyce walk-about
Saturday: Spring arrives at the Verein Park Platz
Sunday: Celebrate Kleine Freiheits 10th Birthday
Monday: A music festival in a guitar shop?
Tuesday: Brenso opens its doors at the old Metzg

Festival: Lauter & Lauter & Lauter

The Lauter collective has been part of Zurich’s alternative musical scene for many years now and their festival is celebrating its 15th birthday this weekend. As usual, the festival centres on Gesneralle, (Halle, Nordflügel and Stall 6,) and features a whole raft of artists who will be playing right across the weekend. Want to check out the music in advance? They have a Spotify play list so you can find out the bands that you can't miss.

Comic In May: Arbnore Toska

It’s always a pleasure to introduce a new comic illustrator to the newsletter. In May it's Arbnore Toska's turn with her colourful and playful illustrations. I asked her about sleeping, roller skates and drawing - you can read the interview here.

Eating: Brenso from Bologna

It seems like just yesterday we said a heartfelt, meaty good-bye to the Metzg, but we no longer have to mourn. The new pop-up restaurant Brenso will be opening its doors starting on the 9th of May and going until the 30th of September. It seems their motto is «Nose to Tail», and they’re all about zero waste and connecting people through food (and people to food as well). I’m excited to see what they do!
