This week is a busy week for local politics with votes taking place for the Cantonal council and in the civil service so don't be suprised if you see people staggering from the club and into the voting station. As this is not a referendum it probably won’t affect you Ronsters in any immediate way but it will be a good indicator of the way the political winds are blowing. I’ll let you know the results next week. Speaking of winds, the record breaking period of «Hochnebel»; you know that high fog that has kept the city nice and grey for weeks has been blown away. This week is a busy one with plenty of parties and gigs and even some stand up comedy. Don’t forget that a massive part of the U.S. sporting calendar takes place this weekend and if you are single we’ve got a great alternative to smug couples on…i can’t even say it…the 14th of Feb.

Unfortunately the world lost Faithless frontman Maxi Jazz recently but his spirit lives on in his music. This week the Alte Kaserne are going to be celebrating Faithless and Maxi with their «Rave of Mystery», in tribute to the band. The night features a quartet of DJ’s who’ll be spinning until the voting booths open on Sunday.

But it’s not just Faithless who are celebrated this weekend. It is also the 17th birthday of Hive and when i saw the DJ list i questioned how they would fit them all in. The answer? Start the party early on Saturday and keep going until Monday at 1am.

Whether you’re a sports enthusiast, or an American expat missing a bit of home, you have to admit: American football can be pretty darn fun. And if you agree, you’re in luck: This Sunday is the football game of the year. That’s right. i’m talking about The Super Bowl. This year, The Philadelphia Eagles will go head to head against The Kansas City Chiefs, with a pre-show and a half time show featuring some singer called Rihanna. I think she's new. Visitors to the Lokstadt in Winterthur may already be familiar with Lok.al, the friendly, cosy and comfy coffee shop, bar and «Broki». Well, Lok.al thought the people of Zurich could use some of their good vibes so they have opened a new location over in Wipkingen. It’s been open for just over a week now and the concept combines an art space for local artists as well as place to buy vintage furniture as well as enjoying a coffee or something stronger and, as Lok.al looks to prefer small and local producers rather than corporate monoliths, it’s all a bit more guilt free.
