Gingers Gutschein Guide This week Ronsters, our Prozentbuch brought me to Wurst and Moritz, a charming little Wurst vendor situated right next to Escher Wyss Platz and very close to my local cinema. The perfect place for some pre-movie eats.
Anyone thinking of writing off Wurst and Moritz as your typical Wurst shack should think again. This place is packed with character and charm. The Moritz of the title is a reference to a Willhelm Busch children's story and the walls of the the restaurant are covered with illustrated antics of Moritz and the trouble he gets into with his wurst. It makes me kinda sad as a non-German speaker that I don't understand these little comics but it's another reason to come back when my language skills get up to speed. It's the obvious attention to detail and thought behind its execution that elevates this place from good to great. Each of the menu options are named after famous childhood literary characters, with both Heidi and Willhelm Tell making an appearance. Finally, whats not to love about a eatery that specifically imports a beer from Barcelona just so it can offer a Moritz beer with your Wurst. It's all about the details, people.
First thing to know about this place is that it has a good deal of bang for your buck. Your francs stretch far in Wurst and Moritz, you can get Wurst with pommes, bread and a beer for just 15 francs. We actually tried to use our gutschien on a previous occasion when we were hungrier than this one, only to be informed it would work out cheaper to order the menu deal. That's another thing: I appreciated the staffs' honesty and they have always been incredibly friendly whenever I popped in. There is a lot to be said about this kind of customer experience and it's one that will have me returning again and again.
On to the food - that's what we are all here for then eh?  We ordered two Schweinswurst mit Brot and two beers (again, my hubby was in tow, as usual). It did not disappoint. Tender and tasty and don't get me started on the bread. I want the recipe. I've been a few times to this place so I can also vouch for the Currywurst and the pommes too. Not to be missed. 
It really is the perfect place for a quick snack before the cinema or even just somewhere to eat in general. And those Moritz beers go down a treat.

Ginger's Gutschein Guide This week, Ronsters, I dined in Zum Guten Glück with my Prozentbuch, situated very close to the Schmiede Wiedikon tram stop. For those of you just joining and not entirlely sure what my section is all about, you can check out my first article  here .
I had been to Zum Guten Glück before but the Gutschein promised 2 für 1 pancakes and as I had only sampled their waffles thus far (devine), I jumped at the chance to return. Naturally, being a twofer, my hubby was again dragged along for the ride.
 Zum Guten Glück is one of those places that appeals to me through the full spectrum of my senses. I don't know when this became important to me. You would think taste would be enough (which it has in abundance), yet it is those cafes that please the eye as well as the tastebuds that become my regular haunts. Character and charm it has. The cafe itself takes on various moods depending on where you sit. The front is open, bright, loud and boisterous, and sets a tone where you can come together in a group to laugh and catch up. The back room sets a more subdued, quieter tone, a place for some one-on-one time, to gossip and share some secrets. It's usually very busy and as you can't make a reservation you can't choose your seats in advance. We managed to get a seat in the back this time around. Secrets and gossiping it was then.
We both ordered cappuccinos while deciding on what to eat (not so difficult when you were limited to pancakes only). Since meeting my hubby I've developed a taste for good coffee (maybe even become a bit of a snob) so when I find a place that does a great cup of coffee I usually don't forget it. This is definitely one of those places. Pancakes decided upon, it was a case of monkey see, monkey do with both of us ordering the pancakes with bacon, spinach and cheese. Only difference was I added a fried egg to the top of mine. Always a good idea.
The food arrived to two very wide-eyed and hungry boys and it did not disappoint. The combination of flavours was delectable. I tried, with every fiber of my being, not to eat it too fast but I think I failed. Delicious. Praise be to Zum Guten Glück, which has now officially become our regular Sunday Brunch outlet.
All in all I actually felt kind of guilty using our Gutschein in the end, I mean the food itself is very reasonable with the pancakes costing only 14.50 CHF. We shall return and I can't recommend it enough readers so get up and make your way on over.

Ginger's Gutschein Guide For those who’ve never Wagamama-ed, it’s a Japanese food specialist but less sushi, more noodles and ramen. I’ve been to a couple and the layout is usually the same in all of them: the usual hallway with the display cabinet of various Wagamama paraphernalia, cookbooks (corporate dining at its finest) on display leading you to podium where you wait to be seated. The table layout   is very communal with large wooden tables and long wooden benches such that you end up eating your meal with strangers who sometimes become your new best friends (similar to a beer hall but with noodle soup).  A friendly waitress led us to our table and I   could see in my hubby’s eyes that it was time to launch the attack. It would have been folly to attempt this using my very limited German so I opened with my usual   “Sprechen Sie Englisch”. Luckily she did speak English very well so I showed her our voucher and she   informed us that they would   happily accept it and it would be the cheaper   of the two main courses ordered that would be removed from our bill.     The weight was then lifted, the reaction to our voucher couldn’t have been nicer but I was banking on Wagamama to ease us into this   experience. I do still wonder how it would go down in a well to do establishment like,   say,   the Dolder Grand.
  Stress over   with,   it was   then   on to the fun part.  T o drink, Hubby ordered a large apple and orange juice while I ordered a glass of Santa Christina, Italian red   wine, soft, fruity and a perfect accompaniment to my mood.  
  On the night ,  starters arrived first. I had ordered the   Beef   Yakitori and my other half the   Duck   Gyoza (dumplings) but who ordered what was   irrelevant for starters as it’s usually a sharing   free for all with us.    The   gyoza did not disappoint - they never do. They are our Wagamama staple. The Yakitori was a new one for us, skewered stripes of beef seasoned in a soy and peanut sauce. Delicious. Word of warning to any   ‘well-done’ beef eaters out there, it’s served quite bloody but this is highly masked by the sauce. For us, the bloodier the better.  
  Since I was a bit adventurous with the starter, I decided to stick to my  favourite  dish on the menu for   the main, Chicken Katsu Curry, deep fried strips of breaded chicken breast served underneath a bed of steamed rice, covered in an   delectable curry sauce, and garnished with a side salad. So simple, so tasty, I am getting a food boner reliving it as I type.   Hubby’s main was the Ginger Chicken Udon. I managed to get a taste and, whilst flavoursome it was, it was maybe lacking in moistness or a sauce for my liking.   He seemed happy out with it though.
We did contemplate desert but there was just nothing jumping out at us to share and neither of us wanted a full one (typical gays) so we just asked for the bill and handed over our Prozentbuch voucher.   There was a brief trill of excitement trying to speculate how little we would be out of pocket for all the delicious food we had just eaten and when   it did arrive it brought smiles to our faces. All that food for   69.70 CHF and with tip we both spent exactly 40CHF and had two very full bellies.   
So the first Gutchein experience was a very pleasant one, but I planned for it to be. Let’s see how the rest go.
