Mod Transforms PSP into a Home Console Experience
A skilled gamer has developed an impressive mod that converts the PSP handheld into a home system. This modification allows players to connect their PSP to a TV or any screen while using any Bluetooth controller, providing a new level of convenience and functionality.
The PlayStation Portable (PSP), Sony's first venture into the handheld market, was designed to compete with Nintendo's portable systems. Despite its success, the PSP's successor, the PS Vita, didn't perform as well and was eventually discontinued after the Nintendo Switch was released. Nevertheless, many fans still cherish their PSPs, and for them, this mod offers an exciting opportunity.
Retro Mod Works has created the PS Placeable, a mod that turns the PSP into a console by placing it inside a compact PS2-like housing. This setup allows the PSP to be easily connected to a TV, and it even works for PSPs with broken screens, giving them a second life. The mod also enables users to pair a Bluetooth controller with the PSP, eliminating the need to use the handheld itself as a controller when connected to a screen.
The modder behind this creation was motivated by a dislike of digital games and the frustration of needing to buy a second copy of games players already own. While many PSP titles have been ported to other platforms, the UMD format used by the PSP is not supported by modern systems. The PS Placeable retains access to the UMD drive, letting users enjoy their physical games on the big screen.

Retro Mod Works offers two options for obtaining a PS Placeable: a basic kit for users to build themselves or a fully assembled device with the PSP already included. The fully assembled version has sold out, and the build kit is now available for pre-order due to high demand. The kit prices range from $39.99 to $69.99, depending on the required parts, while the complete device costs $274.99. Given that the original PSP retailed for $249, this mod presents a great deal for dedicated fans. For those who already own a PSP and prefer not to build the device themselves, the modder offers installation services.
Although the PSP is no longer in production, there are rumors of a new PlayStation handheld in development. In the meantime, this mod provides a fantastic way for fans to revive their original PSP and enjoy a fresh experience.
